cake mix brownies

So today, I was in a pickle.  I had a brownie-making request from The Madre, and there was not a brownie mix in sight!  Yes, yes, I could have concocted my own delicious creation, but alas, I was feeling quite lazy today.

So a-Googling I went, and looked up "cake mix brownies".  And lo and behold, I found them!  And they were delicious!  Okay, not better than ooey, gooey homemade brownies or these Brownies of Amazingness from a month or so ago, but for a quick fix, they were pretty darn good.  I kicked the recipe up a notch and added a generous portion of chocolate chips into the batter.  I'm sure other things like M&Ms, peanut butter chips, peanut butter, cream cheese, walnuts, and coconut would be delicious in them, too.  Use your imaggot-nation.

Lazy Girl [or Guy] Cake Mix Brownies
1 chocolate cake mix
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup water
1 egg
3/4 cup chocolate chips

Mix up all of the above, after preheating the oven to 350 degrees, of course.  Spray a 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray, plop the batter in, and cook 'em up for about 20-25 minutes, or until top is set and a toothpick comes out clean.

Frost, if desired.  Devour.

Just found your blog today. Make these cake mix brownies. Added 1 cup chips instead of 3/4 cup. Got to have my chocolate! Not sure what happened but I had to bake for 40 minutes before they baked all the way through. Just got them out of the oven and they smell incredible. They taste a little cake like but that is too be expected.

Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of vanilla and it cuts the box-cake taste.

These taste like cake not brownies but were still good warm with ice cream.

You can take any box mix and sub in better ingredients for a better taste. Use butter instead of oil, milk instead of water, etc. Gives it a more homemade taste. Box stuff tastes bad because they have you make it with cheap ingredients.

Thanks for all the great tips, guys :) And I really like that idea about adding in some vanilla extract.

I did a PINTEREST search for easy brownies and this recipe showed up! I didn't have choc chips, but did have some choc sandwich cookies that no one liked, so... I crushed them added an extra egg and they are great!!! A little dry so next time I'll add more liquid. But they will
go on my "tried it and liked it" board Thx!!!
